Parents around the world are both enjoying and struggling with all this time spent with their children at home because of the current lockdown. As long as your family is safe and sound, there's really nothing to worry about. Use this precious time to make the bond between you and your little ones even stronger. It's also the perfect time to teach them valuable lessons - here are some important life skills to teach your kids during a lockdown:
Budgeting Money
It's never too early to teach children about money and the value of saving. Even young ones can be socially responsible, too. Teach them the concept of "needs" and "wants". Assure them that for now, you will provide everything they need from food, shelter, clothing to schooling and other basic necessities.
But if there's something they want to have, say a new toy or a gadget, they would have to save money for it. They can save up money from birthdays and Christmases, or from doing chores.
First Aid
Knowing how to do basic first aid is a life skill that everyone should have. It might save a life one day. You can start by taking out all the items out of your first aid kit and teaching your children what each one is for and how to use it. Give them some possible scenarios where they will need to do first aid such as a broken ankle, a cut, allergic reaction and so on. Explain what needs to be done in each situation and what items from the kit will be needed.
Watching some first aid instructional videos together can be of great help.
Cooking
Cooking is yet another very important life skill. Being able to cook for yourself and your family is a feat that should never be underestimated. Cooking together also makes for a fun family activity!
Start by letting your kids observe you prepare an easy meal - show them the tools and the ingredients you'll be using to cook such meal. Give them easy tasks like getting butter out of the fridge, beating the eggs or rinsing the vegetables.
Next time, they can prepare the same meal with your guidance. The same goes with baking, too! And don't forget to teach the little ones about food, fire and even knife safety!
Make the most out of this free time when all your kids are at home - teach your children these 3 important life skills!
